Sensory Environment

A sensory room is a calm, quiet, space designed to support and accommodate needs that traditional kids programming environments may not be able to meet. Through the sensory room, we are able to provide a comfortable space for kids to learn and grow in their walk with Jesus through individualized care! 

The sensory room is designed for kids up to grade 5. If you have a child grade 6 and above, we have sensory tubs available at Next Steps in each of our lobbies for your child to enjoy during worship services. 

Discipleship

It is a priority for us to teach kids about Jesus on their level. Sensory Room Leaders will help meet kids where they are with curriculum by: 

• Learning ways to communicate with a child who is non-verbal.
  

• Singing to a kid who doesn’t respond well to speech.
  

• Drawing a picture of Jesus and telling the child God loves them.
  

• Using a sensory bin/bag to help a child calm and refocus.

Friendship

Sensory Room Leaders will help kids cultivate friendships with others. They will do this by:

• Helping kids participate in classroom activities 
  

• Being consistent 
  

• Encourage peer to peer interaction when possible

Safety 

Safety and security is top priority. Sensory Room Leaders will help ensure safety by:

• Participating in and completing trainings 
  

• Following policies and procedures
  

• Working alongside the Kids Team to identify and meet specific needs 
  

• Building relationships with parents to cultivate trust

It is important for us to provide the best care possible for every child while they are in our care. If your child is registered for our sensory room, you will receive and rsvp each week to let us know if you will be joining us! This way, we can communicate with our leaders and provide the best experience for you and your child.
